11 monthly comedy shows to keep your calendar silly

Laughter is the best medicine [citation needed]; and if the instructions on the pill bottle are to be observed properly, then it needs to be taken in a regular dose to be effective. Fortunately for all of us, there are plenty of funny folks prescribing your daily dose in the form of monthly comedy shows. From stand-up to improv to variety shows and all the things in between, humorous folks in the Bluff City are just waiting to tickle your funny bone.

You Look Like

WHEN: 3rd Saturday of each month, 9 p.m.

WHERE: P&H Cafe

WHAT: You Look Like is a roast battle competition show where six comics enter, and one leaves as the emperor of insults. The audience gets involved too, with winners being determined by applause as well as a portion where you get to submit your own burns to the performer of your choice. Each month the winner gets a fancy hand-made hat from hosts Katrina Coleman and Brian Balough. ($8 entry, 21+)

Improv Underground

WHEN: 1st Friday of each month, 8 p.m.

WHERE: The Brass Door

WHAT: Improv Underground is a no holds barred improv comedy show hosted by the Bluff City Liars competing for your laughs in a Whose Line Is It Anyway?-style short-form improv romp, punctuated with a long-form exhibition (basically an improvised one-act play). Audience participation is key for getting suggestions or otherwise being involved in select games, and there’s even a trophy for the best suggestion of the night! ($5 entry, 18+)
