Come and spend a few minutes at Minglewood Hall with Grass Roots Disc Golf, during one of their weekly tournaments.
You don’t need a ball or a set of clubs to enjoy a game of golf if you have a disc. As it turns out, you don’t have to be outside either! Every Tuesday night during the Winter (sometimes Thursdays depending on the schedule), the Grass Roots Disc Golf league takes over Minglewood Hall for their weekly putting tournaments. This gives disc golfers a chance to practice their skills during the Winter, as well as meet tons of new people and other disc golfers. Never played disc golf before? Don’t worry! The Grass Roots Disc Golf tournaments are set up so that people of all skill levels can enjoy the game and have fun. Every player draws a random card and gets paired with a partner. From there, it’s a little like a game of horseshoes. Rounds are 2 on 2, with you standing at one end with an opponent, and your partner at the other end with the other opponent. Both teams throw their discs to try to hit the goal in the middle, and the first team to 11 wins — but you have to win by 2!
More about Disc Golf
If you’ve never played disc golf before, it’s pretty much the exact same rules as regular ball golf! There are even different sizes, weights, and bevels to different discs, much like there are different clubs in ball golf. You play on a 9 or 18-hole course, and each hole has a par score. You start from a tee box, and work your way to the goal, with each throw counting as a “stroke”. In disc golf, instead of a hole, the goal is more of a basket, with chains draping down from the top. You’ll want to hit the chains, and make the disc drop down in to the basket for your shot to count. Disc golf is a great way to get outdoors, get some exercise, and have a lot of fun.
