It's crawfish season! Crack open a few mudbugs and give back to Porter Leath
The 27th Annual Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival is Sunday, April 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wagner Place and Riverside Drive in Downtown Memphis!
While many are ready to devour buckets and buckets of the bayou bug, there are quite a few persons here who haven’t cracked open the crawdaddy themselves. If that’s you, roll up your sleeves and get ready to have your hands covered in Cajun seasoning.
The easiest way to open crawfish:
- Twist & Pull the tail from the body. This is a quick 2-motion process that will take no time at all (save the head for step 5).
- With the tail in hand and the underside in sight, snap off the extending sides thus opening the crawfish.
- Pull out the meat.
- Don’t have to tell you to eat it, but that’s what happens here.
- Suck all the juices and flavors locked inside the head (for both good luck and to not miss out on the flavor).

You may ask yourself after dismembering the crawfish, “What’s this other stuff inside the head”? Food. The foie gras of crawfish to be consumed as a delicacy. Yum!
Refocusing on the festival, it’s free to enter, but you’ll need to pay for your buckets $20/ea. weighing 3 lbs. Let’s not forget this is all to support Porter-Leath which offers several programs helping children and families throughout the year.
