There’s no shortage of things to do in the Bluff City once it’s officially summer.  If you’d rather just find a place to stay cool, we’ve made a list of places you can chill out this summer.  If adventure is calling your name, here’s a few things you have to get out and do around Memphis!

Go to a Redbirds Game

The Memphis Redbirds are currently one of the best teams in Minor League Baseball, so it only makes sense that you’d want to go see a game this summer!  Not only is the action on the field great, but there are weekly specials and promotions that will definitely give you your money’s worth and make it a great experience for the whole family.

Tuesdays: Polk’s Dollar Dog Night
Thursdays: $2 Beer Night, All-You-Can-Eat specialty ticket night
Fridays: Friday Night Block Party
Saturdays: Postgame Fireworks
Sundays: Kids Run the Bases, Prairie Farms Ice Cream Sundays

See a Show at the Orpheum

The Orpheum has been bringing Broadway to the Mid-South since the 70’s, but it also brings a wide variety of other entertainment — comedy shows, movies, ballets, concerts.  This summer will be no different, as you’ve got a chance to see entertainment from Broadway like The Illusionists, or comedians like Jerry Seinfeld.  Looking for something for the whole family? Bring them to see a screening of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.  There’s tons to check out this summer at the Orpheum!

Go to a Peabody Rooftop Party

Thirsty Thursdays are a lot more interesting when you’re jamming out at a rooftop bar overlooking the Memphis Riverfront!  The Peabody Hotel hosts a rocking party every Thursday through middle of August, featuring live entertainment during every party.  As a bonus for the ladies, if you arrive before 7:00 p.m., you get in free!

See a Free Concert at the Levitt Shell Theater

Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and book it down to the Levitt Shell Theater for free music every single weekend this Summer!  You can get a free concert every single Thursday – Sunday through the middle of July, featuring some amazing musical acts.  There will be a nightly rotation of food trucks and draft beer selections, but you can bring your own cooler and have your own picnic if you’d like!

See the Stars at the Live Garden

The Memphis Botanic Garden’s Live at the Garden concert series is bringing some awesome talent to Memphis, with big names like Rascal Flatts, Train, and Gladys Knight hitting the stage.  You can bring your own blankets and chairs, as well as your own coolers, making it a perfect evening for the whole family.

Visit Shelby Farms Park

Summertime means it’s time to get outdoors, and there’s no better place to start in Memphis than at Shelby Farms Park.  Not only is it a fantastic place to take your kids for a day, but there are miles and miles of both paved and unpaved trails for walkers and cyclists.  There are also over 20 lakes in Shelby Farms Park, so you can bet there’s plenty of fishing and places to get out on the water.  There’s so much to do at Shelby Farms, it may not even be possible to experience it all in a single day!

Go to the Memphis Zoo

The Memphis Zoo offers daily events, like feedings and chats with the keepers, but they also have some cool exhibits this Summer!  Have you ever fed a giraffe before? What about riding a camel?  In addition to these really cool seasonal exhibits, the Zoo is also featuring Ripley’s Believe It or Not! through the beginning of July, with some really cool and strange things for the family to check out.

Go for a Bike Ride

There are TONS of trails in and around Memphis to hop on 2 wheels and go for a ride.  You can go for a ride on the Greenline at Shelby Farms Park, or even head out to Collierville for an experience outside the city.  If you want to experience something really special, take a ride on the Big River Crossing over the Mississippi River.

Take Your Kid to a Movie

Start your kid’s summer with some awesome family-friendly movies!  Every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM, select Malco Theaters around the area are showing great movies at great prices for you and your child.  Not only will it be a great bonding opportunity for you and your little one, but a portion of all the proceeds will go to help support various children’s hospitals throughout the Mid-South.

Pick Your Own Fruit/Vegetables

This is a Summer activity that tons of people in the South take part in every year.  There’s nothing better than biting into a freshly-picked peach in the middle of the Summer!  There are a bunch of places in and around Memphis where you can bring the family for a fun outing!

Go to the Farmer's Market

Visiting the local farmer’s market is a great way to support both a local farmer and his family, and the local economy.  Plus, farmers around here really know what they’re doing, and you can find some of the best fruits, vegetables, and homemade goods, all locally grown and made right here in our area.
